Knicks and Rangers Get Their Own Stocks: How Fans Can Buy a Share of Their Favorite Team

Big news for New York sports fans: Madison Square Garden Sports (MSGS) is separating the New York Knicks and New York Rangers into two publicly traded companies.

The spin-off is expected to be completed on October 26, 2026, with regular trading in the two stocks expected to begin October 27.

After the separation:

MSG Knickerbockers Corp. (NYSE: MSGK) will own the New York Knicks and Westchester Knicks basketball teams.
MSG Rangers Corp. (NYSE: MSGR) will own the New York Rangers and Hartford Wolf Pack hockey teams, as wellas the MSG Training Center.

That means fans will soon be able to buy Knicks stock or buy Rangers stock through GiveAshare and turn team loyalty into a real ownership experience.

What This Means for Current MSGS Shareholders

The record date for the spin-off is expected to be October 20, 2026.

For every two shares of MSGS owned on the record date, shareholders will receive one share of the new MSG Rangers Corp. (MSGR). Existing MSGS shares will become shares of MSG Knickerbockers Corp. (MSGK).

For GiveAshare customers who own one registered share of MSGS, fractional MSGR shares will not be distributed. Instead, fractional interests are expected to be sold and eligible shareholders will receive cash in lieu of the fractional share.
